Missed the Tech Train
Is the lack of technology making students unsuccessful?
A student at Lanier Middle School goes to the library, sits at a computer. When he plugs his flash drive into the desktop. He clicks START then finds out that there are only old programs and finds out he will never get an A+ on his Woodhead Street Journal.
At Lanier Middle School, the technology isn’t up to the standard that students need for success. For example the most recent Microsoft word software that the school has at the library is 2000, 2003, and few 2007, the same with PowerPoint. This is too old to be of much use.
This is a huge problem because how are students supposed to do their school projects without using sophisticated technology? At home some of the students have 2010 or 2011 Microsoft Office, which will make the students confused on how to use a 2000 or 2003 Microsoft Word. This means the school is not helping the students at all; the school should have up-to-date software to allow their students to do the best work possible.
Another problem is the classroom computers, which have the first generation Intel core, but the latest generation of Intel Core is the 7th version. Oops! It looks like Lanier missed the tech-train. Think about it, people are in 2013, not in 2000, so the school needs an upgrade on computers, printers, etc…
The Lanier MS says that they will give students a good technological environment to be well educated, but the technology isn’t suited to make students successful in their future life. In this quote, David says that technology is what students are supposed to use for their learning in this time period as well as teachers, and it well help them in the future.
Imagine if a student goes to an advanced high school, how is the student going to know how to use sophisticated technology? So Lanier MS has to revise its technology, because it is considered to be the base for the students’ knowledge, and therefore it must be robust and strong.
Therefore the student will have to wait until Lanier’s technology get better, so he goes home finish his woodhead street journal website.

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick
